Connected Vehicles at Highway-Rail Grade Crossings Research
The U.S. DOT Volpe Center’s Systems Safety and Engineering Division supports Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) research activities related to designing, developing, and testing the Railroad Crossing Violation Warning (RCVW) vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) safety application for connected vehicles. The team also supports outreach programs to railroads and automobile industry stakeholders to solicit technology implementation.
This collection of publications and papers covers the development of the RCVW reference implementation system as well as deployment, testing, and evaluation of this technology at a connected vehicle testbed/pilot with an active highway-rail grade crossing.
