Forest Service Transit in Parks Archive
The Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks (TRIP) Program was administered by the Federal Transit Administration in consultation with the Department of the Interior and provided roughly $25 million annually to federal land management agencies and partners for alternative transportation implementation and planning.
TRIP supported 54 Forest Service alternative transportation planning and implementation projects. These projects included the following outcomes:
- 26 planning studies
- 4 constructed trails
- 35 alternative transportation vehicles purchased
- 12 vehicles and vessels replaced
- 2 traveler information systems implemented
- 8 other types of improvements (e.g., parking areas and bus shelters)
Although the program has concluded following the passage of MAP-21, Volpe has developed an archive of past Forest Service TRIP projects and associated outcomes:
