Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine - Alternative Transportation Study
The only National Monument and Historic Shrine in America, Fort McHenry (FOMC) is known for its role in the War of 1812 and as the site of the penning of the Star-Spangled Banner. Growing annual visitation—from less than 300,000 before World War II to nearly 700,000 in recent years—has put pressure on Fort McHenry's transportation infrastructure.
Volpe, The National Transportation Systems Center, developed an Alternative Transportation Study as part of a comprehensive planning effort to ensure that the necessary facilities are in place to facilitate both the preservation of the fort's natural and cultural resources and the continued enjoyment of its visitors.
