Cape Cod National Seashore - Integrated Parking and Transit Study
The project will assess current and forecast conditions—including visitor demand and potential erosion of existing parking facilities—to determine Cape Cod National Seashore's (CACO) parking needs, including any need for additional facilities over a 25 year period. The study will include:
- A comprehensive projection of the Seashore and town beach and shuttle system parking needs
- An evaluation of existing facilities
- The use of existing parking lots
- Exploring collaborative efforts with local stakeholders
- Identification of viable parking sites and alternatives and how the Seashore would shuttle visitors to the beaches and connect with the FLEX transit system
- The impact on loss of parking lots through erosion
- Funding needs and sources
- Identification of appropriate clearance and permit requirements
- Public engagement
Work will be done in collaboration with Outer Cape towns, the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, Cape Cod Commission, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Volpe will recommend how the Seashore and its partners can move forward with an intergrated parking and public transportation program.
