As a part of the “Apply Online” process before you submit your application you will be asked to complete a checklist to identify the occupation(s) you wish to apply for. 

Your application must include documentation that shows you meet the respective individual occupation and series requirements as listed below:

Computer Scientist (1599) Mathematics and Statistics Student Trainee Series (e.g., Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or similar fields)

Currently accepted for or working towards a bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science from accredited or pre-accredited institutions (at least 15 of 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus). The required education must lead to a degree in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

Data Scientist (1599) Mathematics and Statistics Student Trainee Series (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Database Management, or similar fields)

Currently accepted for or working towards any four-year degree, with desired education in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or other general degree programs. Course work in fields closely related to those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.

Economist (0199) Social Science Student Trainee Series

Currently accepted for or working toward a degree in economics that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and three semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.

General Engineer (0899) Engineering and Architectural Student Trainee Series (e.g., Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, General, Mechanical, Civil, Systems, and Facilities Engineering)

Currently accepted for or working toward a degree in professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, communications, or electronics.

Engineering Psychologist (0199) Social Science Student Trainee Series

Currently accepted for or working toward a degree in Engineering Psychology, Psychology, Engineering Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Organizational Psychology, Social Psychology, Industrial Engineering, or Human Factors or Computer Science with a human factors focus degree program, including related course work in these academic fields. Applicants should also possess experience that equips the applicant with knowledge of the principles, concepts, methodologies that include research, analysis, or operations directly related to engineering psychology, human factors, or psychology.

Operations Research Analyst (1599) Mathematics and Statistics Student Trainee Series

Currently accepted for or working toward a degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics or related and include at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least three of the 24 semester hours must be in calculus. The following is a list of acceptable courses: optimization; mathematical modeling; queuing theory; engineering; econometrics; psychometrics; biometrics; experimental psychology; physical chemistry; industrial process analysis; managerial economics; computer science; measurement for management; mathematical models in social phenomena; and courses that involved application of operations research techniques and methodologies to problems of management, marketing, systems design, and other specialized fields; or other comparable quantitative analysis courses for which college level mathematics or statistics is a prerequisite.

Policy Analyst (0199) Social Science Student Trainee Series

Currently accepted for or working towards any four-year degree, with desired education in business administration, communication, public policy, or other general degree programs. Course work in fields closely related to those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.

Community Planner (0099) Miscellaneous Occupations Student Trainee Series

Currently accepted or working toward any four-year or graduate degree, with desired education in community planning; or related field such as urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, sociology, geography, economics, political science, or public administration that included at least 12 semester hours in the planning process, socioeconomic, and physical elements of planning, urban and regional economic analysis, and development finance.

Environmental Protection Specialist (0099) Miscellaneous Occupations Student Trainee Series

Currently accepted for or working toward any four-year or graduate degree, with desired education in environmental science, environmental or public policy, physical science, community planning, ecology other general degree programs. Course work in fields closely related to those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.

Program Support Assistant (0399) Administration and Office Support Student Trainee Series

Currently accepted for or working toward any four-year or graduate degree, with desired education in business administration, communication, public policy, or other general degree programs. Course work in fields closely related to those specified may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.
