Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge - Alternative Transportation Study
Situated in southwest Oklahoma, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge (WMWR) is one of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's most visited sites. Based on the findings and final recommendations of a Transportation Assistance Group (TAG) site visit in spring of 2009, the Alternative Transportation Study will produce a report that includes the development of transportation goals, existing and projected future conditions, an analysis of non-motorized and motorized transportation options, and any implementation recommendations. Rather than conclude with a single recommendation, the study will provide the refuge with a set of transportation management options that could be implemented. The Volpe team is coordinating its efforts with those ongoing for the development of the Refuge's Comprehensive Conservation Plan and will base its efforts on the findings and final recommendations of the 2009 TAG report.
