Tongass National Forest, Auk Village Recreation Area - Conceptual Parking and Road Improvements Analysis
In support of the Forest Service's plans for physical improvements to this popular beachfront recreation area in Juneau, Alaska, the Volpe Center prepared three conceptual designs for new roadway and parking area layouts. Volpe's designs included traffic-calming features to improve pedestrian safety, while also ensuring emergency access and adequate parking for vehicles of different sizes. These designs helped the Forest Service meet its objective of improving the safety of the area and the quality of the visitor experience.
