National Parks of New York Harbor - Traveler Information System
The purpose of this planning project was to analyze alternatives and design a Traveler Information System (TIS) concept to enhance the experience of visitors to the NPNH parks and other sites managed by federal, state and local partners. If implemented, the proposed system would provide travelers with information promoting increased use of alternatives transportation systems in the New York City metropolitan area that service the parks and other sites. Visitation to NPS areas is in excess of 17 million and 50 million to all related sites. While the alternative transportation systems in the area are highly developed and very efficient, they can be confusing and intimidating for visitors. This TIS was designed to improve that situation by providing better pre-trip planning and enhanced real time assistance while in the area. Implementation of the TIS concept should result in increased use of alternative transportation, increased visitation to many NY harbor attractions and substantially improved visitor experience.
