Martin Van Buren National Historic Site - Transportation Analysis Report
The Martin Van Buren National Historic Site (MAVA) protects the site of the country's eighth president, where he lived from 1841-1862. Volpe provided support for MAVA's first General Management Plan (GMP). The National Park Service (NPS) estimates that the site attracts between 20,000 and 25,000 visitors per year and predicts an increase in visitation to the site over the next five to ten years. The expectation of an increase in visitation is based on the park's recent boundary expansion, plans for a new visitor center, and the park's goal to integrate the site into existing Hudson River Valley tours. Volpe's study investigates existing transportation infrastructure, local transportation links, and regional transportation connections and considers how alternative transportation may attract additional park visitors, accommodate event visitation, and incorporate new park activities.
