Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historic Park - Transportation Support in the General Management Plan
This project resulted in a report that analyzes transportation conditions and transportation plans and assesses potential transportation opportunities for cooperation among public and private providers and tourism sites in the region, identfying potential roles that NPS and others may play in further transportation initiatives. The study addresses the following: (1) development encroachment around and within the Park (urban sprawl); (2) coordination with the 2000 Master Plan for the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Heritage Area; (3) the proposed expansion of I-81, (4) circulation within the park, including vehicular and pedestrian options; (5) plans by Shenandoah County for a county park at the southern area of the the Park boundary; (6) potential linkages to George Washington National Forest; and (7) the impact of special events upon transportation. The project also helped to inform the transportation phasing and funding strategy for the Park, including identification of which initiatives or services might best be spearheaded by NPS and which might be pursued primarily through partnerships.
