Cape Lookout National Seashore - Maritime and Landside Operations Analysis Assistance
Cape Lookout National Seashore is only accessible by water and access is currently provided by contracted ferry operations and privately owned boats. The reevaluation of existing services and development of a new approach to vehicle/ferry operations are two of the park's high priorities for ensuring long-term visitor access. In this study, the Volpe Center assisted in the analysis of maritime and landside operations and the feasibility of existing passenger-only departure facilities from Harkers Island, Beaufort and Morehead City. The study resulted in recommendations for ferry service planning, development program, site analysis and evaluation.
