The Woman with the Groundbreaking Mind
Volpe's Ruth Hunter was recently featured in BU Today, the news and information website of Boston University.
In the article, "The Woman with the Groundbreaking Mind," Hunter stated that when she was a freshmen in BU's College of Engineering in 1960, she was the only woman undergraduate in her aeronautical engineering class.
Hunter explained that during her freshman year she had to take machine shop, mechanical drawing, and kinematics classes, but unlike her male counterparts she was at a huge disadvantage because in high school women weren’t allowed in shop or mechanical drafting classes.
To learn how Hunter fared in college and what she's been working on at Volpe for the past 39 years, read the full article.
