U.S. DOT SBIR 16.1 Solicitation Now Open
Small businesses are invited to submit research proposals for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (U.S. DOT) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program solicitation. The 16.1 Solicitation will be open from October 14, 2015, to December 16, 2015.
The U.S. DOT SBIR program is administered by Volpe on behalf of the Secretary of Transportation. The 16.1 Solicitation seeks innovative proposals from small businesses interested in conducting research on the following topics from the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Highway Administration, and Federal Transit Administration:

- 16.1-FA1: External Lighting Enhancements to Reduce Bird Strike Events
- 16.1-FH1: Technological Enhancements to Improve and Expand Casual Carpooling Systems
- 16.1-FH2: Connected Bicycle: Communicating with Vehicles and Infrastructure
- 16.1-FT1: Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection Devices for Transit Buses

Pre-Proposal Webinar on October 21, 2015
A pre-proposal webinar for small businesses interested in submitting proposals will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. (ET). The webinar will provide information on the application process and featured solicitation topics.
