Kristin Borntrager
Acting Director of Volpe Financial Management
Kristin Borntrager is a federal financial leader with more than 26 years of experience dedicated to driving financial excellence, integrity, and the responsible stewardship of taxpayer funds. Borntrager currently serves as the acting director of Volpe financial management within the Office of the Secretary of Transportation (OST CFO).
Throughout her career, Borntrager has successfully managed complex financial portfolios and led strategic optimization efforts across multiple federal agencies. Her previous leadership roles include serving as a regional budget officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and as finance and budget officer for the 934th Airlift Wing (Air Force Reserve). Borntrager’s exceptional performance, operational impact, and mastery of Lean Six Sigma methodologies have earned her numerous local and national accolades.
Guided by a philosophy of servant leadership, Borntrager is deeply committed to workforce development. She has spearheaded and participated in multiple federal mentoring and coaching initiatives, earning formal recognition for her dedication to helping others achieve their professional goals.
Borntrager holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Saint Joseph's College and an MBA from Hardin-Simmons University. She is dual-certified as a Certified Defense Financial Manager with Acquisitions (CDFM-A) and a Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).
