Principal Technical Advisor for Perception and Resilient PNT in Intelligent and Automated Transportation
Hadi Wassaf, PhD is a principal technical advisor at the U.S. DOT Volpe Center leading the research and development of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solutions for intelligent and automated transportation systems. With more than two decades of experience, Wassaf possesses deep expertise in PNT, perception sensors, sensor fusion, and adaptive antenna systems. He has led high-impact technical programs ranging from GPS interference analysis and Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna (CRPA) systems to the development and testing of novel positioning solutions for safety-critical automated systems.
Wassaf's expertise further extends to remote sensing algorithms (LiDAR, SODAR, and RADAR), statistical signal processing, communications, and interpretable AI. His recent work focuses on integrating navigation performance with novel concepts of operations for autonomous systems and GPS resilience. Furthermore, Wassaf's leadership in developing positioning solutions using augmented on-board sensors has been instrumental in identifying and addressing safety-critical gaps in existing technologies.
Throughout his career, Wassaf has led multidisciplinary teams of engineers and contractors while cultivating successful collaborations with leading universities and research institutions. An accomplished researcher, he has authored numerous publications and technical reports providing innovative solutions to complex transportation problems. Wassaf holds a BS, MS, and PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
