Can We Get There from Here? Transportation and Climate Adaptation: Prospects for the Future
Steve Winkelman, director of Transportation and Adaptation Programs at the Center for Clean Air Policy, presented a talk titled “Can We Get There from Here? Transportation and Climate Adaptation: Prospects for the Future” at Volpe on October 8, 2013.
Winkelman shared examples of successes and challenges in transportation and climate resilience, including sharing policy and capacity-building recommendations from a practitioners' workshop he facilitated for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
He also shared insights on what it takes to actually get to implementation, including engaging the private sector, making the economic and political case for resilience measures, and "mainstreaming" adaptation into existing plans and investment portfolios.
Wilkelman's talk was part of Volpe's Transportation System Resilience, Extreme Weather, and Climate Change speaker series.
