Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge - Alternative Transportation Study
Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge is located within the Town of Chatham, Massachusetts. The Refuge and the Town both have a rich history of fishing, boating and living off the ocean. Nearby is South Beach, the southernmost extremity of the Cape Cod National Seashore, which is managed by the National Park Service and the Town of Chatham. The popularity of the area, the narrowness of the roadways, and limited parking and transit service have combined to create traffic congestion and spillover parking impacts in the area around the refuge. With funding from the 2007 cycle of the Federal Transit Administration's Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks program, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service partnered with Volpe to study alternative transportation options to improve access between the Refuge and Chatham area, with potential connections to other Federal Lands. Transportation options may include van or shuttle service, as well as maintenance of the existing level of FlexRoute service.
