2026 Volpe Annual Review

The U.S. DOT Volpe Center today released its Annual Review 2026, a collection of the Center’s top projects and accomplishments from the past year.

Drawing on a multimodal, multidisciplinary workforce, the U.S. DOT Volpe Center supported more than 350 projects for the Secretary of Transportation, U.S. DOT operating administrations, other federal agencies, state and local governments, nonprofits, and industry partners. The Annual Review highlights a selection of transportation innovation stories that demonstrate the Center’s contributions to the Department’s strategic priorities related to safety, system transformation, infrastructure, and efficiency.

Featured efforts include work to modernize the air traffic management system; expand leadership in artificial intelligence and automated vehicle research; advance supersonic flight, advanced air mobility, and counter UAS capabilities; strengthen positioning, navigation, and timing resilience; improve freight movement; and support NEPA reform to expedite environmental review and permitting. Each story emphasizes the U.S. DOT Volpe Center’s collaborative approach with sponsors and stakeholders across the transportation enterprise.

“Our 2026 Annual Review illustrates some of our top work of the past year, while also documenting some of the significant headway the Department is making to advance its critical mission and strategic priorities,” said U.S. DOT Volpe Center Director Gregg Fleming. “Our staff has been running on all cylinders to support the transportation priorities of the new administration. I look forward to the year ahead and collaborating with the Volpe team, our dedicated sponsors, and all of you to further advance the nation’s transportation system for the public good.”
