02-RS1 Advanced Materials for Pipeline System Infrastructure Assurance
Question: I am interested in obtaining clarification in regard to the advanced materials solicitation for pipeline system infrastructure assurance, 02-RS1. The solicitation description identifies the need for the use of advanced materials to assure the structural integrity and continued, safe, and efficient operation of the United State's pipeline system. Research focus is placed on stronger and more resistant advanced materials to prevent or attenuate damage to pipelines by outside forces. Would there be a role for the application of thin film coating materials to serve as continuous sensors to inspect the pipeline?
Answer: Our interest is in materials to prevent or attenuate damage
to pipelines from outside sources. We would consider application of thin film coating materials to serve as continuous sensors to inspect the pipeline only so far as they could demonstrably be linked by the proposer to the topic's objective.
