Adrian D. Hellman
Work Experience: From 1991-1997, Mr. Hellman was employed as a member of the technical staff in the Shipboard Electromagnetic Effects Branch at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia. During his tenure at the Navy, he investigated the sources of shipboard electromagnetic interference phenomena and tested alternative solutions. Since departing in 1997, Mr. Hellman has been employed as a systems engineer at the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As a member of the Rail and Transit Systems Division, his research duties have included investigating the feasibility of implementing communications-based train control in the United States and the improving the safety of high-speed rail grade crossings.
Areas of expertise: Electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility, GPS-based vehicle tracking systems, communications-based train control safety-critical systems, grade crossing safety.
Education: Mr. Hellman received his B.A. with Distinction in Physics from Boston University in 1990 and his M.S. in Systems Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1998.
