Dr. Roger Wayson, National Expert
Environmental Measurement and Modeling

Dr. Wayson has been given the title of national expert as a member of the Volpe Center. Prior to Volpe, Dr. Wayson was a full professor on the faculty at the University of Central Florida (UCF). He went to UCF after completing his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Vanderbilt University and serving on the Vanderbilt faculty. Other degrees are shown above. Dr. Wayson is a licensed Professional Engineer in Tennessee and Florida. He is a fellow member of the Air & Waste Management Association, the Transportation Research Board, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Acoustic Society of America, the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has been or is currently an officer in most of these organizations and is a fellow member of the Air & Waste Management Association.

Dr. Wayson's key areas of research are the evaluation and abatement of noise and air pollution from transportation systems. He has worked on such research since 1973, first with the Texas Highway Department (now Texas Department of Transportation), continued with the mentioned Universities, and now with the Volpe Center.

Dr. Wayson has been very active in research and published on airports, highways, railways (including high speed rail), and other community sources in regards to air quality and noise. This work has included air quality analysis on many major projects and numerous small ones, air quality monitoring, air quality modeling, community noise monitoring, and community noise modeling.

Dr. Wayson taught engineering courses on general air pollution analysis (including dispersion modeling), air pollution abatement design, air pollution monitoring, environmental analysis of transportation systems, and outdoor noise control. He has taught numerous short courses on air pollution and noise analysis/abatement for highways.
