Volpe Projects: A Record of Success
Massachusetts National Parks
The Volpe Center analyzed a concept design of a traveler information system, along with analysis of visitor transportation hub location alternatives for 18 National Park Service units in and around Massachusetts Bay. The Volpe Center offers recommendations for improvement to these 18 parks, including expansion of the current visitor information center and the addition of new visitor centers in high-traffic areas of Boston. The goal is to provide more accessible information to visitors, such as traveler information systems, interactive educational guidance for tourists, real-time information and web-based trip planning, and coordination of services. In order to determine the optimal course of action, Volpe studies numerous other cities with broad park systems. Beyond this, site analyses are conducted to determine the best areas in Boston to build new visitor centers.
The web site designed by the Volpe Center - http://www.nps.gov/mass - is now available to help visitors with their trip planning.
