Volpe Projects: A Record of Success
Acadia National Park
The planned closure of several U.S. Naval facilities in the region necessitates a reassessment of Schoodic Peninsula's transportation needs. This project identifies and assesses alternative transportation systems to help ensure that the park meets its goal of maintaining the quiet and scenic condition of the Schoodic parkland. Various transportation alternatives have been considered, including combinations of ferry services from Bar Harbor to Winter Harbor; properly linked bus services at each terminal; enhancements of bicycling options, and provision of park-and-ride facilities. The report also includes an assessment of impacts that would result from the reuse and implementation of these transportation alternatives in and around the Schoodic parkland.
