Search Help
General
Search options: simple search offers a few select fields for basic searches, while advanced search offers additional fields, as well as fields unique to each document type.
How search works: The search operates by AND, meaning entries in more than one field will "narrow" results, for instance:
A title search entry for "wing" and an author search entry for "Smith" - will bring back results where "wing" is in the title AND "Smith" is one of the author(s) - so only those entries where both criteria are true would be returned.
Searches are "exact": entering "transportation department" will return results that contain those two words in that exact sequence.
Less is more: The more detail you enter, the fewer results will appear. To broaden a search, try entering partial words, etc., for instance:
Searching for "transportation" will return exact matches for "transportation".
Searching for "trans" will return matches with those letters in that order, such as: "transportation", "transport", "transported", "transcontinental", "transit", etc.
HINT: To get specific results, type a "space" after a partial entry - type "trans " (with a space afterward), to bring back only matches for "trans".
Case insensitive: Searches are not case sensitive. For example, "Hall" will return the same results as "hall".
Reports, Presentations, Articles: By default, all of these document types are included in the search. Use the check boxes to change which specific types should be included in your search.
Results are sorted by Title: The search results are by default listed by Title. Select the column headers to sort results by that column.
View a record: Click on the "Title" link to view the details of the full record.
Specific Notes on Fields
Author Search: (1970 - Present)
Authors are listed in this manner in the records: Burnham, David C.; Gorstein, Mark; Hallock, James N.; Kodis, Ralph D.; Sullivan, T.
Search for one author by last name for best results.
HINT: Search is "exact", but inclusive. Searching for "silva" in Author will return matches for "daSilva", "Silva", etc. To get just "Silva", try " Silva" (with a space in front).
Subject Keyword Search: (1970 - Present)
Searching for a single keyword, for example "noise" instead of "noise modeling" will return more results. Searching for "noise modeling" will search only that specific string.
There is an option to narrow your search with a second keyword using Advanced Search.
