New Vessel Traffic Management System Communications (USCG)

The Volpe Center's Center For Navigation recently completed a prototype computer modeling tool for the U.S. Coast Guard R&D Center. The tool was developed to analyze and design communications networks that use Digital Selective Calling (DSC) for Automated Dependent Surveillance. DSC is becoming increasingly popular as the communications channel for Vessel Traffic Management Systems operating in U.S. harbors and seaways. A paper, based on this work, was presented at the Second Technical Conference on Telecommunications R&D in Massachusetts, recently held in Lowell, MA.
