Kim Cardosi, Ph.D.
Kim Cardosi is the national expert in aviation human factors at the Department of Transportation's Volpe Center. She received a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Brown University in 1985 and a private pilot certificate in 1990. From 1985 to present she has worked in both flight deck and air traffic control human factors at the Volpe Center. She has conducted extensive research in a variety of aviation safety areas and has provided human factors support to many FAA and international aviation safety programs. Much of her recent work has focused on runway safety and the development of aviation safety metrics. Dr. Cardosi’s current research focuses on identifying pilot and controller errors that result in runway incursions and airborne losses of separation. The results of this research are used to develop identifying strategies to mitigate those errors and improve safety.
Her many publications have enjoyed world-wide distribution; some of these publications have been translated into Spanish by air traffic service providers for use in their countries.
