Groundwater Evaluation and Optimization System (GEOS)

A screenshot of the GEOS system's visualization and modeling. The Division is also supporting the development of EPA Region 5’s GEOS, an innovative IT system developed to radically improve methods by which Remedial Project Managers (RPM) manage and analyze Region 5’s Superfund sites. GEOS greatly improves how data is acquired and managed and provides multiple solutions for visually displaying site characteristics, measuring remediation progress, and determining compliance status. EPA staff can then dynamically view and analyze data in a variety of ways, independent of static tables, graphs and cross-sections provided by the potentially responsible party or on-site contractor. The Division is now supporting Region 5’s effort to enhance the system by migrating to an Oracle enterprise system that will increase functionality and access to the data and analysis tools of GEOS.
