About the Presentation:
Apple Computer has been on the forefront of Computing and IT when it comes to devices, displays and associated middleware. This briefing is an update and discussion of what Apple is up to now. Some topics are:
- High end servers — How Apple approaches multiprocessing, throughput, memory & disks, footprint, green data centers, comparative costs, and use of Unix, Linux, or Microsoft environments for servers.
- Workstations and Notebooks. This will be a discussion of the newest user devices including the new Mac AIR Notebook, plus a discussion of how these machines can be set up with configurations for an MS Windows environment.
- An update on expected improvements similar to that presented by Apple and Intel at a previous CTUG (2006). Topics — New multiprocessor configurations (beyond the dual Quad), implications for green data center with new rare earth doped semiconductors, and the advent of even smaller component size — 35 nm??
