Sixth Annual Volpe TEAM (Tutoring, Educating, and Mentoring) Effort
CTUG hosted the Sixth Annual Volpe TEAM (Tutoring, Educating, and Mentoring) Effort recruiting event. RSPA Acting Administrator Kelley Coyner was our keynote speaker. She highlighted former Secretary Slater's Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Futures Program as well as his interest in volunteer outreach programs. The Morgan Program is a new national education initiative built on partnerships with the transportation and education communities.
Volunteers from our own Volpe TEAM Effort told us how we support the principles of the Morgan Program. Representatives from the Kennedy Elementary School mini-course program, the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Mentoring program, the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Science Fair (new project), the Kendall Square Learning Project (adult education English as a Second Language), and the Volpe Center In-house Mentoring program told us how to volunteer.
On-Going GPS Projects at the Volpe Center
The Volpe Center GPS Coordination Group discussed on-going GPS projects at the Volpe Center, as well as efforts by the GPS Coordination Group to increase the visibility of this work and help identify future applications for GPS technology.
The Global Positioning System, known as GPS, is a satellite-based radionavigation system deployed and operated by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS provides extremely accurate and continuous three-dimensional position, velocity, and time information to users worldwide.
The Volpe Center has been involved in GPS activities since the mid 1980's and has extensive expertise in GPS applications for all modes of transportation. A core group of individuals at the Volpe Center, representing a diversity of GPS applications, recently has formed a team to identify future utilization of this technology, as well as any impediments to its implementation. This group will more closely coordinate ongoing GPS projects at the Volpe Center, facilitating exchange of information and resources among various GPS applications.
