The Systems Engineering and Safety Division conducts engineering, research and analysis to synthesize technical requirements, regulatory information and program guidance to optimize transportation system performance and safe operations.

Capabilities

  • Provides technical, analytical, and project management support in the planning, development, operation, and evaluation of railroad and transit systems and technologies.
  • Supports the development and refinement of regulations and standards to improve transportation safety.
  • Performs technical oversight of federal investments in capital improvement projects.
  • Provides technical assistance and training on regulatory compliance and safety assurance.
