The Air Navigation and Surveillance Division conceptualizes, evaluates and supports the deployment of navigation, surveillance related systems, enhancing the capacity, safety, security and efficiency of traffic operations and management. We support the FAA, as well as other DOT offices and international entities.

Our division also:

  • Explores and applies new technologies and advanced concepts, including space-based technologies, to navigation and surveillance systems, including integrated system configurations
  • Employs system engineering, system modeling, simulation, and analysis; laboratory and field-testing to assess and analyze multimodal navigation and surveillance system capabilities, vulnerabilities and alternatives
  • Assesses spectrum management policies related to communications, navigation and surveillance (CNS) system operation and analyzes potential interference sources impacting their operation.
  • Promulgates CNS systems, technologies and information to the community
