Volpe Center Air Quality Facility

Projects - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)

Technical support for the evaluation of air quality impacts proposed actions by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)

The FMCSA is considering impacts resulting from motor vehicle use and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). An important consideration is the heavy trucks that will enter the United States from neighboring countries. It is possible that these trucks could have an impact on air quality since the fleet could be older and not required to meet the same air quality requirements.

The Volpe Center Air Quality Facility provided a detailed evaluation of the analysis of potential air quality impacts for the project. The evaluation included technical review of methodologies used, evaluation of assumptions, and concurrence with regulatory requirements.
