Sharon Woods has been working as a software engineer at the John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center since 1999, specializing in the development of real-time graphical user interfaces in both Unix and Windows-based platforms for air traffic control programs. Before Volpe, she developed GUI's at Raytheon's commercial air traffic division (for both foreign and domestic aviation customers) and programmed modeling and mapping software for the marine geophysics industry. Her projects at Volpe include developing the GUI and leading field maintenance and enhancements for the Surface Surveillance Server of the Airport Surface Division as well as ongoing development and maintenance of the Traffic Situation Display(TSD) of the FAA's Enhanced Traffic Management System (ETMS).

Since joining Volpe's Environmental Measurement and Modeling Division in 2005, she has been developing the redesigned GUI for Version 3.0 of the Traffic Noise Model (TNM) and contributing to the effort to merge ETMS flight data with EuroControl flight data to enhance the Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT)'s modeling capabilities.
